Hi, I’m Steve Eno, a Fairfield County parent. Like many parents, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to find a good tutor. Last year I tried word of mouth, asking the school, asking teachers and a few of those online tutoring services. It was hard to find anyone at all, let alone a great tutor who knew the curriculum and how to teach at the right level. I knew there had to be a better way.
So I decided to start Teachers Who Tutor. We match parents and students with a teacher who tutors the subjects they teach. Once we’ve made a good match and an introduction, the parent/student and teacher take it from there: agreeing on a price, scheduling sessions and payment.
For parents and students, Teachers Who Tutor is the easiest way to find a great tutor. Parents tell us what they need and in 1-2 hours we send matching tutor profiles for review. The parent picks the tutor they like best and contacts him or her to get started.
For teachers, Teachers Who Tutor helps them find new students to tutor. Often teachers aren’t sure how to attract new students they can tutor close to where they work and/or live. Other tutoring services charge a middleman fee of between 20% and 50%. But with our service, teachers keep 100% of their hourly rate and decide how they want to be paid.
Depending on the subject and tutor, hourly rates range from $75 to $150 an hour. Parents pay the tutor directly for tutoring sessions.
After the first tutoring session, we send parents an invoice for our $100 match fee. If the tutor wasn't a good fit for their child, we'll find someone else. Parents pay the match fee only if they're happy with the tutor.
So why is it worth $100 to find a tutor?
- Parents don't have to spend hours finding a tutor.
- All our tutors are teachers and teach the subject they tutor
If parents aren't happy with the tutor, they don't have to pay our fee.
